More running begets more energy. Last night, the Leiyu Township Sports Association held the 2018 “Love in Leiyu” Lohas Starlight Carnival, attracting more than 300 adults, students, and children to participate and enjoy the fun of a night run. Hong Guo-Jheng, President of the association, said that the night run activity allows people to exercise which is good for their health, and that they can enjoy the beautiful night scenery of Kinmen and Xiamen close by at the same time.
The night run event attracted enthusiastic participation from the public and students in both Kinmen and Leiyu Islands, who started gathering at the Square of Jhouhuan Elementary School in the evening. Alumni of Leiyu Junior High School from the 15th year also gathered for reunion and support, bringing a buzz to the campus that is otherwise quiet during the summer holidays.
Director Wang Han-Wun of the Tax Bureau was present to express his compliments on behalf of Magistrate Chen Fu-Hai. Leiyu Township Mayor Hong Cheng-Fa was enthusiastically asserting everyone that doing exercise for health can be at any time and any place, day or night. Leiyu Township Elected Representatives Chairman Hong Ruo-Shan, Vice Chairman Hong Yan-Yu, President of the Lieyu Branch of Kinmen County Sports Association Chen Jian-Fa, Secretary of the Township Office Fang Siao-Ping, Director of Legislator Yang Jhen-Wu’s Office Hong Syue-Wun, and the chairman of the Community Development Association all attended the event. President Hong Guo-Jheng, on the other hand, welcomed everyone to join the night run. He said that the Lieyu Township Sports Association is applying to the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education for the “2019 Sports i-Taiwan Project,” and pursuing support from local County Government, Lieyu Township, and Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc. (KKL), to organize multiple sport activities. This is the third event this year of general starlight power walk and night run, for people to enjoy the fun of night-time exercises, and the nearby beautiful night scenery of Kinmen and Xiamen at the same time.
Before the run, Jhouhuan Elementary School’s running team led all the participants to warm up and move their bodies. The run started at 7:10 pm from the entrance of Jhouhuan Elementary School, with some people power-walking instead of running, following the activity route to advance to the Bada Tower → turning right to the Lieyu Township Community Service Center → going to West Road → heading due west → turning right to Siatian → going straight to Dongkeng → going to Hujingtou intersection → turning left to Shuangkou Seaside Avenue → going straight to Jhongdun (Seaside Avenue) → going to Shanglin (Seaside Avenue) → Shanglin General Temple intersection → turning left to Shanglin Village → turning left to Cianpu → going straight to the Lieyu Fire Brigade → turning left to the Bada Tower → reaching the end point (Jhouhuan Elementary School).
